Earth Day 2023 was celebrated April 22, and on Sunday, April 23, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Marco Island celebrated “Creation Care” with a fair for churchgoers. That phrase is the Episcopal Church’s name for caring for our planet and preserving our environment, and congregations choose how to implement the theme. St. Mark’s chose to have an information day for the public, and Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island participated along with Friends of Tigertail, Naples Botanical Gardens, Naples Native Plant Society, Collier Water Management, and a solar power organization.
Calusa Garden Club participated by displaying a table with information about using native plants in our landscape for better environmental care, and Susan LaGrotta raffled off several native plants. Rhonda Gloodt and Ellen Van Nagell also participated, along with Linda Colombo who attended for Friends of Tigertail, and Gwyn Goodman, former longtime member of Calusa Garden Club
The fair was held from 8:30 to 11:30, in order to reach all attendees between the church’s two Sunday services. The church provided refreshments as a light brunch with juice and coffee.
