Calusa Garden Club was pleased to have Mark Peters, speak to us on crotons. He brought beautiful specimens that were available for sale. We learned how to air layer a croton in order to propagate.
The members enjoyed his progam which included an account of the history of crotons.
In October we had Park Ranger Jim Alaniz, also known as Spiderman, visit with the Jr. Gardeners. He brought his collection of Spiders that make Florida their home. We had lots of teachers stop by too to take a look at these spiders.
We usually meet on the first Wednesday of each month.
The meeting dates of Jr. Gardeners for the future are:
Dec. 7th, Jan 11, Feb 1st, March 7th, April 11th, May 2nd
The event was held at the beautiful Island Country Club on Marco Island. It was well attended. Past President Opi installed the new officers. The Calusa Garden club camp scholarship was awarded to Jayce Dawson of Tommie Barfield School. She will attend Camp Wekiva for a week. The camp is sponsored by the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs.
This was awarded to a civic organization for its educational contributions. The presentation took place at the Gala which was the last event in the Arts a Fire celebration on Marco Island 2011.
Calusa Garden Club was asked to participate with the Marco Women's Club's annual Home Tour event. A handful of members produced floral designs for the six selected homes to be toured. Several of our members also voluntered to be posted at the homes. It was an enjoyable day for all that attended and supported the Women's Club. .
