Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island members conducted a work session at Mackle Park last week to prepare succulent dish gardens for sale at their November 23 Plant Sale.  Members Linda Colombo, Linda Ariel, Jenn Ferrier, Sue Oldershaw, Sara Wolf and Club President Susan Neustadt worked on planting new succulent dish gardens in attractive planters, and also added new plants to dish gardens they had made in 2020 in preparation for a November plant sale that was postponed due to the Covid pandemic.

Tillandsia, or “air plants,” are epiphytes of the bromeliad family that grow while holding onto trees, bark, or even stones, without an extensive root system.  They come in over 650 different types, of varied colors, shapes and sizes.

CALUSA GARDEN CLUB AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS

Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island awarded two college scholarships to 2021 graduates of Marco Island Academy.  The recipients of the $1,350 awards were MIA graduating seniors Spencer Siems and Tyler Chute.  Marianne Foley, Calusa Garden Club Scholarship Chairperson, made the announcements and gave the awards to Siems and Chute at the MIA Awards Night held on May 26 at the Marco Island Hilton.
