MARCH 2022

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world” Margaret Mead.

When it comes to protecting our beautiful island, we as individuals can make a difference. Protecting our environment begins at home.

The use of Round-up, the chemical of choice by landscapers and many home owners and condo associations to eliminate weeds, is an environment disaster. Pulling weeds or spraying with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water is a better choice.

Over fertilizing gardens and lawns and using fertilizers high in phosphorous pollutes our waterways. Marco Island has a ban on fertilizing from June through September and no fertilizers within 10 feet of a sea wall.

Homeowners and condo associations can plant Florida friendly plants and shrubs that require less water and care.

If we do our part and educate our friends and neighbors what a difference it would make for the water quality in our canals and our beautiful gulf. Every little bit helps.
